Salem, Oregon – League of Women Voters of Oregon supports students in National Walkout

Many students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies will take part in a National School Walkout on March 14, 2018 as a response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. The event will be at 10 a.m. across every time zone and last 17 minutes – one minute for each of the victims gunned down in the Feb. 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Civic engagement is a core value in the League’s mission, and we consistently encourage citizens to participate in their democracy.

The League of Women Voters of the United States believes that the proliferation of handguns and semi-automatic assault weapons in the United States is a major health and safety threat to its citizens and supports regulating firearms for consumer safety. The League of Women Voters of Oregon agrees.
