ACTION ALERT: FINAL PUSH FOR NPV
Update on LWVOR Action Alert for National Popular Vote (NPV)
NPV is finally getting a hearing in the Senate! Since yesterday’s Action Alert was issued, the Senate Rules Committee has scheduled a hearing on the two main NPV bills, HB 2927 and SB 825. It will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 1:00 pm, in Hearing Room B. The League will be submitting testimony in support of HB 2927 and in opposition to SB 825. Our goal is to provide compelling reasons why SB 825 is unacceptable and to strongly urge committee members to vote “yes” on HB 2927 with a “do pass” recommendation.
League members now have several NPV advocacy options. You can attend the Wednesday hearing in person or watch the hearing online from home, submit your personal comments to Senate Rules on HB 2927 and SB 825, or participate in the rally on Thursday, June 22 at the Capitol (as described in the original Action Alert below.) We’ll be sure to let you know if rally plans change.
If you have questions, please contact Marge Easley, email@example.com.
Date: June 19, 2017
To: All League Members and Oregonians
From: Norman Turrill, LWVOR President;
Marge Easley LWVOR NPV Portfolio
We are quickly running out of time to pass HB 2927, the National Popular Vote bill, this session, so supporters are gathering at the Capitol on June 22, noon to 3:00 pm to let Senate leaders, as well as the members of the Senate Rules Committee, know that this is a very important issue for Oregon voters. We will be urging legislators to allow a vote in Senate Rules and to move it to the Senate floor. Please consider joining us! You’ll recognize NPV Oregon leaders by their black NPV T-shirts. Hope to see some of you there.
Marge Easley – NPV Portfolio, LWVOR
Norman Turrill – President, LWVOR
